Bivigam is an immune globulin made from human blood plasma. Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) contains antibodies that help protect against infection and inflammation.
Immune globulin is a sterile solution that contains antibodies that protect you against infection from various diseases, and can also treat the inflammation associated with other diseases.
Immune globulin intravenous (IGIV, for injection into a vein) is used to treat primary immunodeficiency.
IGIV is also used to increase platelets (the clotting cells in blood) in people with immune thrombocytopenic purpura.
IGIV is also used in to help prevent certain infections in people with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
